How do I know if I'm called? - a short article exploring the idea of calling from the NextGen team:

‘Every break time at the conference, I made a point of quizzing wise missionary veterans who had served overseas for decades: "How did you know where to go?" In almost every case, they began by talking about being 'called'.

To be honest, I found it pretty dissatisfying. It left me more puzzled: 'What actually is this 'calling'? And how do I know if I'm called? Will I see writing in the sky?' They spoke about it as if it was obvious, but it wasn't to me.’

A Third of Us - Marvin J. Newell

‘Today, over three billion people, a third of humanity, have yet to hear the good news of Jesus. They have no opportunity to believe in him as their Savior and find peace with God through him. Of all the injustices in the world—and there are many that are quite distressing—this is the worst, because of the eternal consequences. A third of anything is significant—especially this third.

In light of this staggering need, Marv Newell explores the five Great Commission passages, where Jesus methodically unfolds the essence of the disciples’ task. A Third of Us is not just an invitation to be aware of the need, but a rally cry for today’s disciples to respond. Writing to the whole body of Christ, Newell casts a vision for multiple ways to get involved in reaching the unreached.’

Sometimes we can struggle to remember God’s instruction for us to be involved in his mission to the world through prayer. Maybe our prayers for missionary friends have become stale or maybe we’ve simply forgotten that praying for the world should be our priority. However we feel we’re doing with praying for the world this devotional booklet will warm our hearts and inspire our prayers with great truths from God’s Word.

These 60 devotions are authored by experienced Bible teachers and mission workers J. Oswald Sanders, James O. Fraser, and Will Bruce and daily reflections are written by J. Hudson Taylor. Their first-hand experience of missionary work helps them to write with infectious passion and energy. Why not keep this booklet with your Bible for when you need encouragement and motivation to help you to pray for God’s kingdom to come across the globe.

One of the themes we explored at NextGen Scotland was the idea of calling. David P Jacob’s book highlights three things that can help you discover the adventure God has for you in his mission: prayer and Bible study, missionary mentorship, and short-term mission trips.
